Stylish and durable the Sony CMD Z1 has a standard design for this class of handsets. Its dimensions are 64 x 99 x 24 mm and weighs 220g. It is one of the heaviest mobile phones. The phone is powered by a Li-ion 730 mAh standard battery that will work up to 80 hours in standby mode and talk time up to 10 hours and takes 136 minutes to full charge.

The Sony CMD Z1 comes with Monochrome graphic display with the resolution of 32 x 97 pixels, which is not very high resolution but normal for small mobile phone. Because Sony CMD Z1 is too wide in size it is not comfortable to hold ones hand. There is a jog dial to operate menus. To dial a number there is a numeric keypad.
