Mobile Phone / Cell Phone
industry in India is growing at an unbelievable rate.
The mobile phone industry consists of not just the
connection providers but also the mobile phone users and
the mobile handset suppliers.
There was a time when mobile phones / cell phones were
considered to be an item of luxury. Back then mobile
phones were not just used for staying in touch with
people but also for flaunting one’s social status. If
you saw someone next to you using a mobile phone then
you would inevitably consider that the person was very
well off. And back then there were only a handful of
mobile handset providers in India.
In the present scenario mobile phone industry in India
has grown beyond recognition. There has been an immense
increase in the number of people who use mobile phones.
Almost one-third of the population of India uses the
mobile phone. This is the reason for which there has
been a dramatic increase in the number of mobile handset
providers as well as the connection providers in India.
There was a time when, due to low demand for mobile
phones, there were only a handful of mobile handset
providers. However due to the growing demand for mobile
phone now there are at least about a dozen of mobile
phone handset providers in the India. To name a few of
these one may mention Nokia, Samsung, LG, and Motorola.
There are many other mobile phone handset providers as
well but the above mentioned providers have created a
very good reputation for themselves in the world of
mobile phones.
Talking about the mobile industry in India one cannot
neglect the dramatic up gradation undergone by the
conventional mobile phone handset (which was once upon a
time considered as a status symbol). From being a device
that offered the facility of making calls and sending
SMS the mobile phone has now become a device which
accommodates in itself devices like the radio, MP3
player, camera, alarm clock, stop watch etc. Yes!! The
mobile industry in India has undergone a massive change
and along with that the mobile phone features have also
undergone a massive change.
There was a time when there were only two mobile phone
connection provider giants in the scenario of mobile
industry in India. They were Airtel and Hutch. However,
the scenario has changed a lot now and now many more
providers in the market are providing mobile phone
connections. A few of these new providers are Aircel and
Tata Indicom. Reliance is also a substantial giant in
the field of mobile phone connection provider.
Mobile industry in India is continuously witnessing
competitive wars between these providers. In a bid to
pool in the maximum mobile phone users, every provider
is trying to attract customers by giving away exciting
offers. There are not just exciting offers but also a
general cut in the call rates from time to time. And
these constant price cuts and special offers confuse the
customers about which providers to go in for.
